Pumpkin Heaven

Heading Home day.

We stopped off at Tyntersfield, west of Bristol, to stretch our legs.

The house is one of the National Trusts most recent acquisitions - 2003 or thereabouts, followed by a lot of restoration work. The house had been in the Gibbs family ownership since its construction mid 19th century. Their wealth was founded on the Peruvian guano industry, and the house is one of the best examples of Victorian gothic (with an hispanic twist) although we didn't have time to look inside. We strolled around the gardens - another wonderful kitchen garden, with these home grown pumpkins and squashes displayed in the Orangery. Lots of volunteers, young and old, at work digging and hoeing.

The day had started with a message that one of our nieces had given birth to a little girl, with a lovely photo sent. And a phone call from Herts Social Services, so I will be heading down to Mum and Dad's later this month to assist with that. In 2019 you are always in contact with the outside world on holiday. Although unlike some of my colleagues, I do not check my work emails whilst I am away.
