Meran

The weather was not looking great in the hills so we went down to Meran / Merano in the morning for a look around. S found some free parking near the river so we parked and walked into town along the river. Meran is part of the Südtirol so is very Austrian with Italian overtones and is a delightful small town with lots of beautiful old buildings. I really couldn’t pick one for a blip so made a collage of scenes around the town; an arcade to sit and contemplate, looking down on roofs from a tower, 2 guys playing wine glasses (bits from Lord of the Rings amongst other things, the old bridge and a street scene. The first extra is of some sculpture spotted as we walked around. The weather was better than we feared so we decided to go over the Timmelsjoch Pass  (2500m) into Austria in the late afternoon. The second extra is a collage of hill scenes on the Südtirol side of the pass; the weather was decidedly worse on the Austrian side and the temperature at the top was 0.5 and there was a cover of snow.
