Up Close and Personal

I was surprised to see this dragonfly in my backyard this morning.  I thought that our freezing weather last week dealt a deadly blow to all our flora and fauna.  She is an Autumn Meadowhawk and was happy to hang around and be photographed.  I was pretty close but I cropped this even more to show more detail of her face and eyes.

I am grateful to our wonderful dog groomer who gave Piper the full spa treatment today in preparation for our trip.  I had forgotten to make an appointment until a few weeks ago and she squeezed her in for us.  Two more sleeps and we hit the road! :-)
