The Village of Avoch.
This is the waterfront at the village of Avoch, (pronounced " Och " ) the Scottish sounding Och. Avoch is situated on the eastern shore of the Black Isle in Ross-shire, Scotland. It is an old fishing village. The row of white cottages to the right of the picture are old fishermen's dwellings. I don't think they are all occupied by fishermen now. It was quite a famous fishing village in its heyday before the sixties when Dr Beeching decreed that a rail line to Avoch was no longer required. The line ran from Muir-of-Ord to Avoch and was used to transport fish as well as passengers. In the time of The Silver Darlings ( Herring ) it was a very used port. But sadly it is now a little village on the shores of the Moray Firth.
