Sculptures atop Mt Hepeka, Pitt Island
Up at 4:30am and down to Owenga on the Chatham Islands by 6:00am, we made it across to Pitt Island, by a fishing boat, by 6:45am. The weather has been very unpredictable so we were very lucky that the boat went and we had a good crossing.
The bronze sculptures on top of Mt Hapeka are the work of German sculptor Woytek, for the millennium. Pitt Island is the first place in the world to see the sun each day.
We walked up most of the way, over rough stony & peat ground, not easy going. But our host Brent at Flowerpot Lodge had driven us to the bottom first!
It’s a magic place here! Incredible.
What a great place to have come to.
