St. Anthony’s, one of the oldest Italian Catholic churches in America, owns a big plot of real estate on the border between SoHo and Greenwich Village, including this small empty lot at the corner of Houston and Sullivan. Every year, the church loans the space to the nearby synagogue, Magen David, for the outdoor celebration of Sukkot, the week-long harvest festival, which this year ended last Sunday. And every year, the synagogue puts up this sign.
