Cape Town Mandela mural

We needed a day to relax around Cape Town and with so many competing activities available we knew that we had to take our chance today.
The "Free" Walking Tour started at 11 am outside a suitable café and painted a positive picture of life in this vibrant city. We ate lunch in a "Free from any additives" street restaurant that the tour guide recommended, and Ostrich meat featured again - in a Babotie - a classic casserole with minced meat that is considered the national dish.
In the afternoon, an open top bus tour completed our Cape Town education, took us up to the Table Mountain Cable Car station and gave us our first real rain of the holiday. It had dried up by the time we hopped off at the V & A Waterfront so we were able to have a look around the trendy tourist shops and admire the varied boats in the harbour. We ate in a classy V & A South African restaurant that evening ("Karibu") that Julia & Josh had researched. Another excuse for local food so we sampled Potjie: antelope on the bone, cooked over several hours, in a cast iron pot. Delish.
