Out and about in Cambridgeshire (and Essex)
Had a great day with Ellie and Adventure Boy at Mountfitchet Castle in Stanstead Mountfitchet just over the County Boundary in Essex.
It is a Norman motte and bailey castle with a wooden palisade and a great collection of recreated buildings inside the fence. They also have a great collection of geese, ducks, peacocks, Guinea fowl, hens and doves. Plus some delightful goats and a couple of deer.
And when you're fed up of things medieval there's a toy museum and a haunted manor. Oh, and a collection of dinosaurs. We all had a great time apart from Mr EAnn, who, as you can see, had rather too close an encounter with a Tyrannosaurus rex.
Late in the afternoon when he was feeling a bit better we met an old trade union colleague of mine, Mary, who was having a birthday. Good to be able to celebrate with her.
We finished off with pizza at the deli in Great Shelford and now we can hardly move!
