The Pumpkin House
I was driving to Fakenham this morning for some shopping, so decided to turn off at the pop up pumpkin shop at Brookhill Farm near Thursford. The entrepreneurial owners have built a Pumpkin House from wood which is adorned with over 1,000 pumpkins of different sizes and shapes for sale over 13 days running up to Halloween. The pumpkin price includes a 50p donation to a local charity. There are other pumpkin decorations including the scarecrow in my Extra and a small cafe. What a fab idea, I'm sure the kids must love it. Even on dull and dreary wet days like today, seeing it always makes you smile as you drive along.
Pumpkin Facts from Good Housekeeping
The word "pumpkin" showed up for the first time in the fairy tale Cinderella. A French explorer in 1584 first called them "gros melons," which was translated into English as "pompions," according to History. It wasn't until the 17th century that they were first referred to as pumpkins.
