More Songs to Sing!
I always have lots of scraps of paper tucked inside my folder with song words scribbled on them. Most are covers of songs I like and some I have written myself.
I find songs all over the place. Sometimes I hear one on a TV advert and think - I'm havin' that one! I browse on YouTube, or hear one on the radio that grabs me or I look through Frank's music books.
Sometimes musical friends and I share songs; you can be trying to learn a song but it just doesn't work so it's best to 'give' it to someone else who could do it justice.
My friend Liz Drife and I (who just visited this week) took photos in each other's song books. Whenever we see each other I like to harmonise on songs she sings. I love doing harmonies!
I like to write all the words out neatly and write the chords in red. Then I put them in alphabetical order in my folder.
I'm quite pleased with myself today as I was able to throw all the scraps of paper in the fire after writing them all out, looking up the ukulele chords and trying them out :-)
I like most genres of music so I'll try anything from 40's/50's, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Emmy Lou, through to modern stuff like Pet Shop Boys, Coldplay, Snow Patrol etc.
By the way - ukulele is a lovely, very versatile instrument to play and very easy to learn the basic chords. It's not all George Formby either. I'd love everyone to have a go. Music is good for the heart and soul and learning an instrument is good for the brain! ;-D
