Citroen Kegresse

You don't see many of these on the roads anymore.

We went for a walk around the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle this morning and happened upon this fella.

Its a Citroen Kegresse. Developed by Citroen after the 1st World War for use by the French Army, one of these vehicles was the first ever motor vehicle to cross the Sahara - in 1923.

This one was bought by the Duke of Buccleuch in 1926 for use on grouse shoots. By all accounts, they were extremely versatile machines and could cover very rough terrain. But there was a catch - with a massive 11bhp and a staggering max revs of 2,300, it was also possible to put it in drive and walk in front of it just to make sure that the ground it was about to cover was ok.

I've been away for the weekend - last couple of days have been back blipped, starting here.
