Port of...
A wee wander round Leith of a sunny Sunday morning and loved the way the light cast a halo on this old wrought iron gate.
A fellow Blipper tells me that she was asked to research the history of Glayva liqueur a few years ago, which was known to have been made in Leith using spices that came into the port - and that this gate bears the initials of its inventor.
It was first created in Leith in 1947 by Ronald Morrison, a wine and spirit merchant and whisky blender who wanted to create a liqueur that would warm and comfort his customers during the blustery Scottish winters. On a whisky base, he added honey, tangerines, almonds, star anise, cinnamon and other spices.
There’s always a story around every corner in this city...
