Friday Night is Music Night (on a Sunday)

Nice to see the sunshine when we woke up this morning after the grey and damp of yesterday. Especially after having enjoyed the extra hour of rest as a result of the clocks going back! We had a lovely Sunday roast out with my (Chris) parents in one of the local villages, another early birthday treat.

This evening we’ve been into London for a recording of “Friday Night is Music Night” at the London Coliseum. It was an 80’s special, featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra and a series of artists who had their arguably biggest hits in the 80s. Carol Decker (from T’Pau), Johnny Hates Jazz, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and Jimmy Somerville - all gave great performances. As well we were treated to some additional classic tracks from the decade performed by the orchestra and three up and coming new singers.

To give it the full 80s feel, the evening was compered by Radio 1 80s "legend", Gary Davies (yes, oooh Gary Davies!!). You can see them all front of stage in blip. The arrangements were great, blending key elements of the original backing tracks with orchestral richness, flourishes and dynamics. After a hit strewn first half, we were on our feet for most of the post interval performances.

The whole performance will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on 6th December this year.
