Trinity Church La Plata

Trinity Episcopal Church was built by Justinian Burch in 1756 for the price of 54,250 pounds of tobacco and £200 of Virginia currency.
As I was taking photos of the exterior this evening a car pulled into the driveway and the lady driving it offered to take me inside.
She is one of the caretakers of the church and gave me the most fascinating tour. She is the sixth generation of her family to be a member of the congregation. The two windows adjacent to either side of the altar are dedicated to her father in law and her grandfather. Her grandfather loved to fish, so the dedicated stained glass shows a fishing scene. (extra)
Some of the features that she pointed out are the beautiful stained glass behind the altar that features the nativity scene with one of the kings is presenting the baby Jesus with a tobacco plant. She explained that tobacco built the church. (extras) She also pointed out the stunning signed Tiffany stained glass window. (extras)  The interior is small and very lovingly kept. (extra)
In the cemetery she told the story about the pointed top headstones. She said that the confederates wanted to have points on their headstones so that "no damn Yankee" could sit on it. (extra)
It was a wonderful and unexpected opportunity to be allowed access to this very special and historic church and to be given a private tour by someone intimately devoted to its history. Although I had my tripod in the truck, I found that using the furniture in the church to take some longer exposures worked well enough.
I was so excited to see the inside of the church that I forgot about the iso option and just relied on shutter speed and aperture.
