The Market After The Night Before

I listened to Nadine Gordimer read Jose Saramago's short story 'The Centaur' on the way into work this morning.

Although some of his books are close to impenetrable, Saramago is one of my favourite authors.

The titular centaur in this story is not just physically half man and half horse, but mentally half-and-half too, with the competing lusts and desires of animal and man.
