Low Levels in the Blind Yeo

I was going to put in another bird picture today, but when I went to the Blind Yeo, about 400m from my house, I was surprised at the level of the river itself. This is the lowest I have every seen it, especially a surprise in view of all the rain we have had. It is normally up to the level of the mud tou can see in the picture.
But perhaps it is not such a surprise. The Blind Yeo is a rhyne part of the drainage system for the moors around the area (North Somerset has a lot of reclaimed land and I live behind a sea wall below sea level) and the outlet is sluice controlled by the Environment Agency, and they must be opening the sluices every low tide to try to drain the moors and prevent flooding. For the first time since I moved here over 20 years ago I have seen both gates open on the Blind Yeo sluice so the rhyne drains as fast and as much as possible.
