Beloved Spot

Spot passed away from complications of surgery. Her heart stopped just as they were stitching her up, they were able to restart it however she did not regain consciousness. I sat by her side whilst the nurse manually worked the vent and we listened to her heartbeat on the ultrasound, it was so reassuringly strong. They ventilated her for more than two hours from the moment of getting her back, but sadly she showed no signs of breathing for herself. We made the decision to remove her support, I snuggled and kissed her as I listened to heart slow and stop.

I feel so guilty as it was an elective surgery, but the ‘cyst’ was awful looking once we saw it removed and it had gotten bigger since Monday. We needed to give her the best chance by removing it, sadly Spot was just not able to make it through.

I’ll miss this sweet girl so much, she was such a happy soul who got excited to see you every time you walked past her. The sound of the fridge opening had her standing to attention, and when she thought she was going to get food she would stretch up and nibble the bars of her cage. She loved to snuggle and we had a really good snuggle last night before bed. She had a tough start in life and only came to us when she was three, I just wish it had been sooner so I could have given her all the love she deserved.
