BONSAI CLUB GUEST SPEAKER.....

The gentleman in the thumbnail was the guest speaker at the Forrest Club meeting today.  By profession he is a landscaper.  One of the things he does, is remove shrubbery that people don't want anymore.  Ordinarily, the stumps go to the dump and get burned.  
     Now Abner, is a lover of bonsai.  He takes the shrubs that have been dig, evaluates them, and then save the ones with a great trunk, wonderful character, and healthy looking.  This activity is called "collecting".  The material collected will have to be given 2 to 3 years to recover from having 2/3's of it's roots cut off and 3/4 of the top of the shrub chopped off.
     Abner was very engaging while he was talking.  You can see from the expressions of his listeners, they were enjoying his talk very much.  It was a very good meeting.  Cool temps, wonderful snacks, great topic, happy people......        What more could one ask for?
