Quiet joy on Sauvie Island
Finally Sue and I were able to spend a day together. We set out early for Sauvie Island, where Sandhill Cranes, varieties of ducks, and thousands of wild geese are passing through on their annual migration. I love the sounds the cranes make, sounds like no other creatures: that primeval chortling and churgling.
We walked along the Columbia River, sat next to each other on a log, and listened companionably to the silence and the sounds.
Thank you for your comments on Evan's observations. Marvelous that I get to spend time with these two remarkable children and they trust me to listen to what they have to say. And I do.
