If you can't beat them...

Wilding.

A trip down the M6 to Great Haywood for the annual meeting of our boat syndicate.  The UK roads are just no longer fit for purpose!   The trip took an hour longer than it should owing to either speed restrictions with teens of miles of cones and nothing going on behind them or sheer congestion.

On arriving at the site we were told it wasn't in use as a week ago it had been flooded with over 2 feet (60 cm) of water and the electric hook ups weren't working.  We have been caravaning since long before the days of hook ups and they allowed us to stay.

The next set back was the water pump replacement we had been given didn't fit, so off we went to 2 different caravan dealers only to find it is obsolete.

By the time we were back in the caravan it was too dark for photography so this is a desperation blip..  Wilding is an absolutely fascinating book, it is the story of a 3,500 acre estate being returned to a totally wild condition.   Farming was then carried out within UK laws with regard to animal welfare etc but everything was allowed to grow and behave naturally, both animal and plant.  Every single page is full of "gobsmaking" data and anecdotes.   If you have any interest in nature, ecology, farming, the British Countryside, the nations mental and physical health etc it is an absolutely compelling read I can't recommend it too highly.
