Burghead Clavie

An evening at Burghead to celebrate New Year in the Julian Calender. Brochers d have celebrated this New Year on 11 January since around 1750. The Clavie is first carried around the town then up Doorie hill on the ramparts of the ancient fort. It is then refuelled with liquid tar until the hill is engulfed with flames. Fun and very hot, thought I was going to loosey eyebrows. A piece of burning wood from the Clavie is supposed to bring luck for the coming year, took a piece home with me and nearly set fire to max's car whoops!!
