Victoria repurposed
This Victorian building is a familiar sight on the road between Leatherhead and Guildford and sits at the entrance to Bookham High Street. It was built in 1896 and opened as “The Victoria Hotel and Cyclists’ Rest”. It was built by Mrs Christie, a well known Temperance abvocate, and conducted by her as a Temperance Hotel. It was used as a hotel until the middle fifties, apart from in the Second World War years when the building was the Home Guard Headquarters.
Now the building is shared by an estate agent and a therapy clinic with a variety of treatments available. I was there this morning visiting a young osteopath who worked hard on my neck and shoulder which have been troublesome for many weeks. Good result, and I shall be returning next week
