Sunset on a foggy day

That bank of white dots below center is the river bank and the port, and that's where the action was today. A small but courageous group of twenty-somethings went out to the docks at dawn in kayaks and canoes. Their purpose was to stop some massive ships from docking and loading up pipes to be used to convey nasty, toxic, foul tar sands oil across Canada, endangering the waterways and Pacific ocean, endangering all life in the seas. Five were arrested. They helped to call attention to the ways Oregon and Washington are complicit in this tar sands project. There are some photos in an article in the Guardian. Bless them all.
