Aachener Tor

On the way back from Frankfurt (see previous blip) we didn’t want to eat at a rest stop along the highway, so we took a small detour into Bergheim. This is the old city entrance gate, leading to the pedestrian area where we found a nice small restaurant just past the gate on the right side, called ‘Schumachers’.

Whilst eating I noticed a guest that looked somehow familiar, but I couldn’t place a name. Until it suddenly snapped that there is a well-known racing family originally from that area with a surname that is the same as the restaurants. It turned out that we accidentally walked into Ralf Schumachers’ restaurant and that he was present! We didn’t bother him for a photo, but is was funny. The food was excellent by the way, so if you are in the area, i can highly recommend it!
