Ferry crossing to the South Island

Our ferry crossing was delayed for several hours because of the rough weather. We had to fill in the extra hours so we went driving. There we see a ferry crossing and the South Island - just where we should be. The white tops don't look to good to me though.
We left 5 hours late, drove to Nelson where we arrived at 2.30 am. Big day.
