Berlin Wall - East Side
Happy Birthday Sarah, and how better to celebrate than taking your parents and in-laws to Berlin. This is Sam & Sarah’s favourite European city and they have a fabulous 4 day itinerary lined up for us we haven’t been before.
After checking into the apartment we headed out for curry wursts and see some of the Berlin Wall that is still standing and is now a gallery.
It’s amazing to see the Wall in real life, and no matter how many times you’ve seen it on TV in films etc, standing between the 2 walls really brings home the impact that it had. It’s coming up to the 30yr anniversary of it coming down and we’re staying on the East side in a very vibrant area with lots of cafes and bars. Quite some contrast to what life was like between 1961 and 1989.
There are lots of craft ale bars and after a few aperitifs we had dinner in a German restaurant that included schnitzel, pork, sauerkraut and potato salad. R had pumpkin ravioli, there’s not always a lot of veggie options.
Sarah’s Birthday ended with some late night dancing in the apartment, that she was missing as she was bed so we took the dancing and the singing to her.
Day 1 was fabulous.
