El Paso By The Way

Big day for flying and getting there.  Originally we had planned to stop near Tuscon, Arizona on our way to San Diego, however we made a good start when the fog had cleared and reached Tuscon just after lunch.  We decided to have lunch and complete the 3rd leg on the same day, which meant nearly 7 hours flying, but it was an eventful day of putting some things into practice and learning to cope with new situations.  Most of the terrain changed dramatically from our first day as we flew over several mountain ranges, and sometimes between those that rose above 9,000 feet.  First leg was at 10,500 feet and this photo is of El Paso and over the border Ouarez, one of the big drug cartel towns.  The final leg ended in darkness and traversing a small mountain of 3,500 feet only 20 miles from the runway at San Diego which was only at 500 feet and so had go around to lower altitude before landing.  Tired but glad to be here a day early, we got an Indian takeaway delivered to our AirBNB.  Thanks to Janetchie for introducing us to AirBNB back when we went to the Bahamas.
