Known Unto God
A day in Belgium, visiting some of the sites associated with the First World War. The most significant moments for me were the Last Post at the Menin Gate and our visit to the Tyne Cot Military Cemetery. Around 12,000 soldiers are buried here and three-quarters were never identified. They are "Known unto God". In the visitor centre an endless recording calls out the names and ranks of identified soldiers, with accompanying photographs. Not exactly a fun day, but one I won't forget in a hurry.
