A spectacle worth seeing.
We’d a family outing to the Finals of the 2019-2020 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow.
I’d researched the event a little beforehand but was pleased when my older son kept me right on scoring and the various events within the programme. Great fitness and stamina was on show, and super race tactics displayed. There was also really good teamwork in terms of cycle and athlete management on and off the circuit. It was a slick affair, with lots to see. Interesting too to discover the venue was heated to circa 28c, the optimum temperature for the cycle track and athletes apparently. My wife had booked seats that were ideal for viewing and access. It was good to be able to get a view from the end of the track and out occasionally into the foyer where it was quieter.
France were first in the men’s Omnium race at the end of the event; GBR second (Mark Stewart of Dundee was a hero!); third were Italy. The medal ceremonies were preceded by pipers.
The walk back to the car was crisp. A cold evening
