Running wild
So many people recommended the free-range eggs from a local farmer that this afternoon we went along to see and buy some for ourselves.
Sure enough there were hundreds of chickens running around, pecking at grass and drinking from puddles.(see extra photo)
It all started when Claire, age 15, was given 10 hens for her birthday six years ago by her parents who run the family farm, Foot O’Green, outside Stirling.
Now that hobby has turned into a family business and Egglicious Eggs are much in demand.
Earlier this year Claire was awarded the John Cessford Young person of the Year award for her innovative venture.
Buying direct from the farm is a popular option and it operate purely on an Honesty Box system- see extra photo.
While we were there we saw a constant stream of cars. I asked some people how they heard about it since there was little to no advertising. “Word of mouth” they all said.
Half a dozen medium size eggs cost £1.30 and the best value is a tray of 30 for £5.
We will be back.
