Two memorials
Attended the Remembrance Sunday service at Southery today.
There were two wreath laying ceremonies - the first at 11o'clock with the 2minutes silence and several wreaths; then up the road a little way to the newer memorial (which I see every time I go to Oxburgh but have never stopped to look at properly). This a tree which was planted in 2018 to commemorate the 100 years since the end of WW1. Beside the tree is a metal sculpture of a kneeling soldier and a black polished stone block with a dedication and a lovely poem engraved on it. Here the poem was read out and another single wreath laid. The area extends along the road like a wide verge and has seats and flower beds for people to sit and watch the world go by and think on things. The weather was most 'un-November-like' with blue sky and sunshine which was quite warm as there was no wind. A lovely event in this small village. (see extras for modern memorial)
