Remembrance

Was sorting through some archive stuff and found this little photo album, that uncle Arthur put together in 1916. Some of the photos were of his service pals at his base in Kingsnorth (Kent) but he evidently had some leave to coincide with that of his older brother Dick who had been much further away from home. At this point Dick had already had a medal card recorded for March 2015 (for: "disembarkation, Basra"). He seems to have been moved about a lot. At some point after this photo was taken, he ended up on the Western Front and got gassed. He survived (into the 1950s - I met him once when I was very little), all that time with his breathing capacity only equivalent to half a lung.

In the photo Dick is in uniform, with his sisters Win and Amy and his father. That may be a bridge they're leaning on, in which case it would be over the river Itchen in Hampshire.
