Big Garden Bird Watch Weekend
Every so often I do a nagging blip ... this is one of those ... if you don't want to be nagged, click either side of the picture and normal service will be resumed!
It's that time of year again when the RSPB ask you to step up for nature and do a little citizen science. It's just an hour or so of your time on the weekend of 26th/27th January.
All you need is to register on the RSPB Website here. All you need to do is count the species and number of birds visiting your garden for a given hour. It's all free, you get a nice information pack containing an ID guide and some information on feeding your garden birds, and some gardening tips to encourage them to visit.
The data you provide is valuable to help conservationists plan on how to help our struggling woodland bird species, and to see what trends there are in the various species that visit our gardens regularly.
One of the most common comments after the BGBW weekend is people are always surprised how many birds actually visit their garden when they stop and look.
My count isn't going to be too hard this year. I've barely reached double figures of species in the 7 weeks I have been living here, a bit different to the old Llantwit Fardre house, where my weekly average was 18 species.
I wrote a much longer blog on this for RSPB Cymru earlier this week if you want more information on how you can help this month and in the future.
Nag over!
