Hard nut

Getting into the festive spirit early we bought a pack of mixed nuts, only to rediscover the old problem of nuts too tough to crack, especially almonds.  I bought this fancy gadget, a real instrument of nut torture, but some almonds are still resisting.  Where's the hammer?...
