Located on the Tide footpath at the back of the Intercontinental O2 hotel in Greenwich is this sign post. It points across the Thames in line with some markers that are out on a platform to the opposite side, though couldn’t see where it was on the other side.

Another sign post to the side has this explanation of the sign...

“London based artists Jon Thomson and Alison Craighead originally conceived ‘Here’ in 2011 as a virtual image for the Mini Museum of XXI Century Arts, an online digital media platform. The concept was to mark the distance of the work from itself along a North/South axis. The physical sculpture, fabricated to UK road standards two years later, marks the 24,859 mile distance around the earth and back. The current placement of this sculpture is particularly relevant in its current location on the Greenwich Meridian, which is located at 0 degrees.”

The Tide walk is the first part of a 5km part elevated walkway that goes round the Greenwich peninsula by the O2, connecting a number of public spaces and works of art.

Today might not have been the best day as it was quite blustery and cold, but maybe a return visit in better weather - or warmer clothes - would be ideal, especially if you keep going you get to see the Thames Barrier as well.
