View from the motte at Castle Rising
MrsW and I took advantage of dry, bright weather and hung out some washing before venturing out to visit Castle Rising and its keep. The keep is 12th century but is most famous for being home to Queen Isabella, mother to Edward III in the 14th century.
That's about as much as I can remember of the history relayed to me by the as always well researched MrsW, except to say that she was called The She Wolf of France and had black carpets. I think she must have been a bit of a goth in her time (Queen Isabella, not MrsW). Anyway we got home to a line of dry washing so all in all a successful day.
