Mountains

Today was very eventful and a lot went wrong. We started off very early in the morning in search of a hike into the mountains which ends with an incredible view of the Cirque de Mafate. Unfortunately, as it was a 'jour ferie' there were very few buses running, and the second bus of our journey wasn't for another 3 hours, so we decided to take a different bus to a new location. After getting off at the wrong stop and then persuading the driver to take us to where we wanted to go, we got a ride on the back of a 4x4 truck along the 'Rivière des Galètes', which took us along a valley between the mountains, and up to the edge of the Cirque - although being on the bottom meant that we missed out on the view! 

The scenery was still spectacular and there were mountains everywhere we looked and the reasonably long hike that followed the 4x4 ride meant that we got a lot of exercise (30,000 steps!). 

I'd still count today as a success as we got to see some incredible views and managed to get back in one piece - but for a few blisters.
