The bay appears to be enclosed by the Sandy Hurst and the woods and sandspit at Hedderwick. At low tide many waders forage in the mud and sand beside the meandering Tyne but here the rising tide was quickly filling the bay and giving little hint of the rough sea about two kilometres further east where surfers were enjoying the waves at Belhaven Bay.
