Breathe In And Out...

Poor bloody Jessop's, poor bloody high street...

Unless aliens landed, the Prime Minister resigned or the members of my favourite rock band Rush turned up at my door for afternoon tea, there was only ever going to be one topic today for my blipfoto PHOTOGRAPHY blog - the closure of Jessop's, our last major high street photography chain store. All of Jessop's shops closed for business last night, a victim, like many others of the harsh trading climate and, presumably of a failure to adapt to the changing world of high resolution smartphone cameras and high (enough) quality home printers. It's a real shame though and my heart goes out to the always friendly and helpful staff I always encountered in Jessop's shops. Incidentally, a small Kodak store in the same general line of business seems to have closed over Christmas as well. It's clearly a time of crisis for the whole photographic retail sector, at least on the high street. Every time a decent shop closes here in Stirling, it is replaced by a bookie's, a pound shop, a payday loan parasite, a pawn shop or one of those vultures that grossly underpays desperate people for their gold jewellery. Farewell Jessop's!
