Pontypridd
You know that weird thing how you can arrive in a new place and feel immediately comfortable, like you'd want to spend some time there? I've felt that about Edinburgh and New York, and - more specifically - in Salford Crescent, where we're hoping to buy a house. And I felt it last night when we arrived in Pontypridd.
And that feeling was reinforced, this morning, as we dropped our stuff off in the car and then went to look for somewhere to have breakfast, The place we'd fancied didn't open until nine, so we ended up in Costa, where the serving staff were lovely.
It's not like we. had a good look around, to be honest, and the part of town we were in seemed to be mostly budget shops. There was a feeling of neglect but also a sense of soldiering on. I think I'd like to come back and have a proper look around (hopefully under a more progressive government).
But there wasn't time, today. We were in Merthyr Tidfyl at ten for another presentation and then we set off for home. The SatNav suggested the predictable motorway route but also offered, as an alternative, a trip through the centre of Wales that was "8 minutes slower". Well, obviously we took that and I'm glad we did; it was beautiful.
