Tears for fears
What.A.Day!
We decided to go for our planned ride in the hope that we’d be in the shelter from the storm force winds that were forecast. It felt a real adventure venturing to the north west, particularly when the cloud, as expected, loomed beyond the crater we were heading through. There was some moisture in the air but the wind wasn’t an issue so we kept on going round to Ayacata before dropping down the phenomenal and strangely, equally arduous descent down The Valley of the Tears. I have to say, unless the road gets fresh tarmac, it’s not on either of our tick lists to reverse! It’s more like a mountainbike track with regular gradients of more than 20%. The road is insane but the scenery is completely crackers! It’s unbelievable to think someone could consider building a road through the tightly-packed volcanic mountainsides.
We stopped for a well-earned lunch at La Altea before not an insignificant climb out from the coast. Much better road surface though and the strengthening wind was on our tails. Once over the pass, where the wind was pretty strong, we enjoyed a fabulous descent and final small climb back to the car.
Yep, it’s worth saying again...
What.A.Day!
