Our lives in their hands

Another day trip to Vancouver today. There have been lots of these recently : the hour flight over the Rockies is very routine.
On the way back sat next to this lovely, responsible, respectable, knowledgeable and charismatic Air Canada pilot. He was returning home to Calgary after flying from London to Vancouver.
However routine the flights seem, they are still dependent on a series of human based processes each time.
