Commonwealth Games Legacy Projects

Was out and about in the mist and mirk today looking at the third site we're working on as part of a Glagow 2014 Commonwealth Games environmental project. I've blipped about the other two projects at Camlachie and Castlemilk before so today's visit to Sandyhills Park in the City's east end completes the picture.

It was very misty today so far from ideal for taking good quality pics of the park. Kinda liked this one of the multis to the south of the site though. The park has a culverted burn (stream to those south of the border...) flowing under it and our current plan is to open up the burn, restore it to its original route, restore the floodplain and introduce wet woodland type habitat.

Parts of the park would be allowed to flood under high rainfall conditions, protecting local housing from flooding and potentially reducing the likelihood of flooding lower down in the catchment. It would be something a wee bit like this example from London. All in all a pretty exciting and different project!
