Bar-tailed Godwits

I cycled along to Scapa beach after work. Fourteen BTGs there. Shoals of tiny fish were drawing in gulls, guillemots, shags etc If I remember rightly (without checking) 'godwit' comes from old English 'good wight' meaning 'good man'. I don't know why they were thought good men. though they do have an amiable expression.
