Starring Dexter as the Donation Organizer!
At Penn State, there is a Career Services unit that helps to arrange job interviews for students who are approaching graduation. They keep a Professional Attire Closet of clothing that students may borrow. When I saw a news story on Friday that the closet was getting low and was seeking donations, my husband and I sprang into high gear and started going through our closets.
My husband and I were both dirt poor when we went to college. I never could have afforded Penn State, even way back when, when things were cheaper; without my full-tuition scholarship, I'd never have gone here. So we KNOW what it is like to NOT have. The thought of being able to help today's students get a good start by sharing our extra clothing with them made me feel very, very happy.
In short order, I had 20 to 30 dresses, skirts, and suits ready for donation. My husband found quite a few men's slacks and shirts that no longer fit or that he does not wear for one reason or another. He plans to look for suit jackets next. Me, I'll be dipping into the shoes. By Monday, my Mazda's car trunk will be chock full of clothing ready to give away.
But this was the scene on Friday afternoon at our house. Dexter was supervising the sorting process, and doing the all important task of making sure each item has the requisite number of cat hairs (white fur or whiskers on darks, dark fur on lighter items, of course). Actually, in this photo, he may have been taking a break, but only for a minute. . . . .
Good job, Helpy Helperton!
Now, let's give it all away!!!!!
The soundtrack song is Jamey Johnson and Lee Ann Womack, with Give It Away, a song written by Jamey Johnson, Bill Anderson, and Buddy Cannon, but made famous by George Strait.
