A Horny Blip
My French Horn to be precise....
Learning the French Horn as a child has probably been one of the most valuable things I was encouraged to do. I think it is a way to feel part of a team with a shared goal, without having to be competitive and beat someone else to feel good. (I was never much good at sport anyway).
Despite not being particularly musically talented, as a teen much of my social life revolved around the local crowd in the Croydon "youth orchestra" and "wind band" , & I delight in the musical success that many of those people now enjoy.
I kept it up through University but then forgot about it during my working-full-time years.
10 years ago I dug it out of the attic, after having my first child, and joined the local Jazz band. Then, as now, the band provides respite to just be me, new friends and new goals.
How great is that?
