Stir up Sunday

First thing to say is that this is not a Christmas pudding, but a chocolate cake for.Yorkshire grandsons next week.

The Traditional Anglican collect for the Sunday before Advent ran... “Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people....”

Happy coincidence that it led to a family tradition in many places that on this day people would gather round and stir up the Christmas Pudding mixture, individuals making a wish as they took their turn.
