Monday: Duststorm

We rented a car for the day (actually, a convertible Mustang - red - so we felt very cool) and drove out to Joshua Tree National Park.  Like so many of the parks we have experienced, it was uniquely wonderful.  Dry, full of boulders and unique brush land.

We drove back via Pioneertown, halfway between Joshua Tree and Palm Springs.  It was built as a western movie set in 1946 and was designed to save the studios money as they didn’t have to head to Arizona or New Mexico.  It’s no longer the film set it was but it’s a tourist attraction of a different sort.  The only slight distraction while we were there was that there was a severe dust storm warning in place which meant we couldn’t spend as long as there as we would have liked.  But we did then get time in the pool back at our accommodation.

On that, each room in our accommodation had a record player.   And there is an LP lending library which we have been enjoying.  We are absolutely obsessed, though, with ‘The Age of Aquarius’ by ‘The Fifth Dimension’.  We both knew parts of it but hadn’t realized how fabulous it really was......suffice to say, we’ve spent many hours bopping round the room......

Some more in extras.......
