Sunday Sunset

For the past few years, for one day over the weekend we belong to my MIL but today I had this bright idea, though it turned out not so bright, that on the way home we would go the long route, somewhat out of our way to a possible barn owl hunting ground.

Standing outside as dusk fell over the rolling Cotswold hills on the off chance of seeing a barn owl, in the icy cold was fractionally mad! Waiting and waiting there was nothing moving for miles and this red-legged partridge very early on was a loner! (We had seen a covey in the fog this morning). Not on our own, keeping us company were a couple of other cars silently watching and waiting as well. Time went by, they packed up, it was dark after all, my toes were going numb and then I saw it twice for a fleeting second each time - honestly!!! The white shape just flitted in the distance and that was that!

However, going home we screeched to a halt as probably the same owl, flew off the wall at the side of the car....but.....I flew the car window down, it was pitch black so I just pointed the lens out into the night (under instruction here with a running commentary from the chauffeur...'It's there, no over there,....on the fence post....nooooo!!!! ). I could see not a thing down the viewfinder and the camera certainly wasn't going to focus on nothing. So here we have barn owl LOL!!! OH Yes it is!!
