No sun – no moon
No morn – no noon
No dawn – no dusk
No proper time of day
…….
No sky – no earthly view
No distance looking blue.

November!
This poem written in 1844 by Thomas Hood, was one that at school we had to study with its implications of the effect of fog on transport and life before the advent of artificial gas and electric light. Today it has been foggy for much of the time but by three o’clock the thick fog had cleared a little here although it was still hard to see the wood at the side of the field. Now the fog has gone and it is raining again.
